Building furniture for a good cause: HAIX makers become heroes

In August and September, HAIX employees were able to see how their shoes and clothing performed in the work environment. On a total of ten dates, almost 280 people worked on carpentry in the brigk Makerspace. Some of the furniture is now at the company’s sites – four sets of garden furniture will benefit social institutions in Ingolstadt.

From cleaners to managers, all employees of the company HAIX from Mainburg were invited to participate in the team day. After the participants had visited the forester last year and diligently planted trees, it was only logical to deal with the further processing of the wood this year.

On a total of ten dates, around 28 employees came to the brigk Makerspace, the open high-tech workshop of the digital startup center for the Ingolstadt region. Six small groups each built a set of garden furniture consisting of two armchairs, a bench, a table and two planting shelves. All under the expert guidance of Max Hofedank, the person responsible for the brigk Makerspace and a maker himself. In the process, the hard-working craftsmen and women used almost 1,300 linear meters of planed lumber and over 3,500 screws.

It wasn’t just the furniture that was impressive: Almost incidentally, but still controlled by the structure of the workshops, team skills could be expanded and strengthened. In addition, new acquaintances could be made as well as finally faces could be assigned to otherwise anonymous e-mail histories.

With great pride, the group members were then allowed to immortalize themselves with their names next to the HAIX logo, freshly burned in with the brigk Makerspace’s laser cutter.

The trip to Ingolstadt was finally rounded off with a city rally through the historic old town. After a successful conclusion, everyone was able to end the evening with a barbecue and drinks in the beer garden.

Last week, the campaign culminated in the handover of some of the furniture to social institutions. The HAIX company decided to donate one set each to the Lebenshilfe, the AWO, the Pädagogisches Zentrum and ambuflex. The representatives of the organizations received the furniture from HAIX in a small ceremony together with Max Hofedank and Dr. Franz Glatz from brigk.
