Ready for take-off: grand opening of brigkAIR in Manching

About half a year after the digital startup incubator brigk moved into the Kavalier Dalwigk, there is another reason to celebrate: brigkAIR is moving into its own premises at the gates of the Aviation Development Center in Manching. The grand opening of the modular buildings took place on October 14, 2022 in front of numerous political, corporate and scientific representatives.

Separate in color, united in purpose: Funded by the Free State of Bavaria, supported by the city and districts, backed by well-known partners from the regional economy, made for startups, their vision and success. The brigk is the hub of Ingolstadt’s startup ecosystem. With brigkAIR, international startups should now also move to Region 10.

Even the name gives an indication of the orientation: brigkAIR is a digital startup incubator specializing in three-dimensional mobility and is unique in its form. The local proximity favors close cooperation with established players from civil and military aviation. As a result, the incubator offers startups and project teams an optimal test environment as well as highly focused technology expertise and market know-how around autonomous flight and vehicles of all kinds, including air cabs and drones for a wide variety of applications or associated business models.

This unique offering is intended to attract founders, startups and visionaries with promising business ideas and technical solutions in the field of three-dimensional mobility and all related business areas to Region 10. Since the start of activities, more than 250 startups from all over the world have already expressed their interest. One startup has already rented its own office space in the building’s total 500 square meters for the next five years. Five others are participating as “virtual residents.”

The aim is to make the region’s high level of mobility expertise, which is provided by the local mobility companies and suppliers on the one hand and the existing controlled airspace from the test field on the other, visible and usable for startups worldwide and thus attract many more young entrepreneurs to Region 10.

The ceremonial opening of brigkAIR took place with numerous representatives from politics, business and science. In keeping with the occasion, brigkAIR Managing Director Dr. Franz Glatz, Member of the Bavarian Parliament Dr. Reinhard Brandl and Roland Weigert, State Secretary at the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy were flown in by helicopter, while the Manching Airfield Orchestra performed the A-Team.

In addition to greetings and speeches by the people already mentioned, as well as Ingolstadt’s Mayor Dr. Christian Scharpf, who appeared on behalf of the entire Region 10, and Pfaffenhofen’s District Administrator Albert Gürtner, there was plenty on offer for the guests.

In addition to two panel discussions on the topics of “Necessity of test facilities and test fields for startups in the AAM sector” and “Vision Manching 2030: Open for Innovation”, the guests were able to explore the building after the official part and take a close look at the exhibits of the startups that were represented in Manching today. In addition, a DIY drone workshop took place. The day came to a late end with basses from the DJ.

Dr. Franz Glatz

First and foremost, we would like to thank all the supporters who have supported brigkAIR from its conception to its final move-in. We are proud that even before we officially moved in, more than 250 startups expressed interest brigkAIR. We can’t wait to continue filling this building with life. brigkAIR is the spearhead of the startup ecosystem in Region 10.closing-quote
