True to the motto “Don’t just talk about it, do it!” brigkAIR, startup incubator for three-dimensional mobility, in cooperation with the Defense Forum of the German Aerospace Industries Association BDLI, organized the first Startup Pitch Day on May 03, 2022. Under the patronage of Dr. Reinhard Brandl, Member of the German Bundestag, the event took place at the Airbus Drone Center in Manching.
When 25 busy board members and CEOs of established companies get together for four hours, there must be a special reason. The rare sight of hoodie-wearing people stepping out of heavy sedans was reminiscent of Silicon Valley. The motivation behind their presence was to immerse themselves in the German-speaking startup scene
At the beginning of this year, a call was launched looking for interested and innovative startups for the first Startup Pitch Day. It was irrelevant whether the startups were active in the field of artificial intelligence, drones or production and whether they already had points of contact with the aerospace industry. After all, innovation and curiosity about exchange were the decisive criteria. The call for applications was followed by a total of 38 applications from the entire DACH region. After a selection process, eight startups were given the chance to present their business model to established companies in the industry and a competent jury on May 3. Among them were the Hamburg startups Airial Robotics GmbH and Beagle Systems GmbH. Also Weslax GmbH from Düsseldorf, HIVE Systems GmbH from Nuremberg and Spleenlab GmbH from Saalburg-Ebersdorf in Thuringia. DMI Solution GmbH from Dachau, Gestalt Robotics GmbH from Berlin and Orthodrone GmbH from Kiel were also allowed to pitch.
The startups were able to arouse great interest among the audience with their presentations. Heads of Airbus Defence & Space, Diehl Aeropsace, MTU Aero Engines and Lufthansa Technik asked a large number of questions.
The winner of the first Startup Pitch Day
An expert jury of representatives from business and politics decided on the award. They included Dr. Reinhard Brandl, Member of the German Parliament, Otto Gies, Head of Incubation at Airbus Defence & Space, Klaus Günther, Head of Military Programs at MTU Aero Engines AG, and Dr. Franz Glatz, CEO of brigk & brigkAIR. In addition, a public vote was taken into account in the evaluation.
The winner of the Startup Pitch Day is the technology company Airial Robotics. Thanks to its innovative hybrid concept that combines proven aerodynamic principles with disruptive technologies, Airial Robotics created a new generation of commercial drones. The drones developed by Airial Robotics exceed current industry standards in terms of flight time, payload, range speed and efficiency.
Founder Jörg Schamuhn convinced the jury with his pitch. He wins a free front-row stand at the International Aerospace Exhibition ILA. This will take place in Berlin from June 22 – 26, 2022. With the ILA Berlin, the BDLI has its own international platform and showcase, which is one of the most important industry trade shows in the world.
The event enabled C-level leaders to network with young founders. All in all, the first Start-Up Pitch Day was a complete success!
