The past harbors the future

The decision to found the digital start-up center in Ingolstadt and its future location was already decided five years ago in February 2016 – at the end of this year the time has finally come: the future will move into Kavalier Dalwigk on the former foundry site on the banks of the Danube.

Location attachment and future orientation: This is not only contained in the brand name brigk (a combination of the English word for brick brick and Dalwigk), but is also a central theme of the park and square design.

The eventful history of the place from the medieval and baroque fortress to the national fortress of the 19th century and the subsequent industrial use is taken into account in the renovation and reconstruction. Remnants of walls and foundations from different eras are integrated into the design of the open space. Places of historical events are made visible again, abandoned buildings and terrain elements are reinterpreted and used in a contemporary way. 

With the move in of the brigk, the building, which had been fallow since 1991, is now being brought back to life. In the future, the floor space of 2400 square meters will offer everything from event space and workshop rooms to startup and coworking areas, podcast, photo and video studios and social areas that will make the founder’s heart beat faster. But that’s not all – at the foot of the Kavalier Dalwigk, the brigk Makerspace, brigk’s own open high-tech workshop, will also be located in one of the new buildings in spring 2022. For the first time, brigk and brigk Makerspace are combined in one central location, giving founders with product ideas the opportunity to implement their prototypes using professional devices from the wood, metal and rapid prototyping sectors.

The beautiful view from Kavalier Dalwigk over the Danube should of course not be withheld from the public: The terrace of the Kavalier will be accessible by a new staircase and an elevator and will in future be a public space for the city’s population.
